Juniper

Launching a mobile app for middle-aged women taking on a long-term weight loss journey

I led the product design team in launching and scaling a native mobile app for Juniper patients. We worked closely with clinicians and health coaches to deliver educational content, intuitive progress tracking tools, and meaningful engagement for the few minutes we had with them each day. Our product was a 🏆 Good Design Award Gold Winner in 2023.

Eucalyptus

Building and scaling a multi-brand design system for healthcare products

Eucalyptus is a parent company for several healthcare brands. The technical framework behind them all was intentionally standardised, where a lot of the same was used across all experiences to streamline the assembly and scaling of all brands.. My first project at Euc was to create a design system embracing this philosophy. I sourced feedback from the design team and planned implementation with engineering. It was a huge success, raising the quality of our work, significantly reducing design and build time, and it was fun to use! In 2023, I presented a breakdown of this project at Friends of Figma in Sydney and the WDX Conference.

Checklist Design

Building a collection of the best UX/UI practices

In 2019, I created a website that covered a few checklists I made for my own projects. I was tired of repeating the same simple steps over and over, and somehow missing the finer details. Since then it has scaled to numerous checklist categories and gotten recognition from designers at all levels (and a few engineers to my surprise and gratitude).

Neurode

A combination of software and hardware to take on the symptoms of ADHD, drug-free

The Neurode had an innovative device to track brain activity, but needed a software experience to match. I worked with the team to craft a slight brand pivot and entirely new mobile app, featuring quizzes, data visualisation, AI journaling and brain games. It was incredibly fascinating to explore the balance of education and flair, and considering the UI being used by folks diagnosed with ADHD, who have behavioural tendencies relating to focus, memory and attention.

Wisr

Redesigning a personal loan application admin platform

Wisr had a powerful loan application infrastructure established, but the product experience had significant blockers to achieving even greater feats. I was responsible for reimagining the entire information architecture, as well as implementing a new design system on the cusp of a rebrand through the assembly of this experience. I spent extensive time with our operations team to capture their ways of working and preferences, as well as my product manager to dive deep into incredibly complex features that come with any loan application.

Wildcard

Finding a product market fit in the competitive world of banking for millennials

I was the sole designer on small but mighty team of 8 people, crafting a fintech experience that genuinely helped people save money and improve their purchasing habits. Our innovative method of having money stream into one main account to one that encourage free spending led to critical behavioural change. I worked closely with the CEO on the product roadmap and shaping ideas, writing specs and bringing them to life in Figma. Sadly, COVID-19 stopped our ambitions abruptly and we had to close down, which is why it's not around anymore.

What I have done so far?

  • Led design teams in scale-ups

  • Designed multiple 0 -> 1 products

  • Created proof of concepts to help startups raise money

  • Build several design systems from scratch

  • Built my own websites

What am I doing now?

I've gone the independent route, working as a fractional product designer for mostly early-stage teams.

My experience has taught me not every business needs a designer right away, but waiting too long is also risky (and common). The answer is to work with an experienced designer for a set time with clear deliverables.

The business progresses with a product experience meeting their ambition, and I get to build amazing products with wonderful people.

How do I like to work?

I like to balance being practical and being curious. Exploring ideas both large and small, considering the tradeoffs, and reaching for a realistic ambition to do great things together.

I love working with teams that actively collaborate and iterate with an understanding that the best ideas come in time, not right away.

I believe curious exploration will always lead you to the right solution.

A little about me

I'm self-taught designer who's let the twists and turns of startups and scale-ups shape my approach and process to the people I work with along with the work itself. I'm a big fan of the best way to learning is simply doing. Want to become a designer? Design, design, design.

Personally, I'm a Liverpool fan, amateur tennis player and I take my cat for walks outside. I also try to watch 100 movies a year which I track here.
